Bio

Kimberly Hempel was born Kimberly Hamilton and raised in the central valley of Fresno, California. She earned her bachelor's degree in studio art from Cal-State University, Fresno in 2010. After six years of being a sculptor's apprentice for Margaret Hudson, she was inspired to pursue her dreams of being an artist and a teacher. In 2013 she received her teaching credential to teach art at the secondary level from the Kremen School of Education and Human Development at Cal-State University, Fresno. She met her husband while finishing her credential and they relocated out of the valley to live on the central coast. After settling and marrying in Los Osos, California, she chose to go back to school to get her MFA in painting from the Academy of Art, San Francisco. Her current series of paintings examines how we connect memory to things and places. Through her use of the vintage and antique toys that she introduces into the landscape settings, she creates narratives that feel nostalgic.
